Whereas, since the Revolutionary War, women have valiantly served in our
3
nation’s military, ensuring the preservation of our security, values, and liberties;
4
and

Whereas, President Harry S. Truman signed the Women’s Armed Services
6
Integration Act on June 12, 1948, enabling women to serve as permanent, regular
7
members of the U.S. Armed Forces; and

Whereas, many states recognize the anniversary of the Women’s Armed
9
Services Integration Act’s signing as Women Veterans Day; and

Whereas, women are the fastest growing demographic in the national veteran
11
population, with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs projecting that women
12
will constitute nearly one-fifth of the national veteran population by 2040,
13
compared to just 4 percent in 2000; and

Whereas, the State of Wisconsin Women’s Council estimates that Wisconsin is
1
currently home to over 29,000 women veterans, or about 10 percent of the state’s
2
veteran population; and

Whereas, Wisconsin’s women veterans continue to serve in vital roles after the
4
end of their military service, including as mothers, community leaders,
5
businesswomen, educators, and beyond; and

Whereas, women veterans experience higher rates of post-traumatic stress

disorder, sexual violence, and unemployment compared to veterans who are men;
8
and

Whereas, the State of Wisconsin strives to address these challenges so that
10
our women veterans are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, in
11
recognition of their immeasurable sacrifices; now, therefore, be it

the members of

the Wisconsin State Legislature proclaim June 12, 2025, as Women Veterans Day

and commend Wisconsin’s women veterans for their invaluable courage and
