Whereas, these lands were inhabited by Indigenous peoples for millennia

before immigrants from around the world settled here; and

Whereas, for generations, individuals from every corner of the globe have
5
made the United States and Wisconsin their home, shaping the unique character of
6
our state and nation; and

Whereas, Wisconsin is currently home to approximately 308,000 immigrants,
8
as well as nearly 130,000 U.S.-born children with one or more immigrant parents;

Whereas, immigrants helped Wisconsin achieve statehood in 1848, and 177

years later, immigrants continue to enrich and advance our state; and

Whereas, many of Wisconsin’s largest and most important sectors—including

art, science, government, education, farming, and tourism—have benefited from
14
the dedication and labor of immigrants; and

Whereas, immigrants play a vital role in our economy, generating an

estimated household income of $13.5 billion and contributing approximately $1.2

billion in state and local taxes annually; and

Whereas, immigrants account for 11.5 percent of Wisconsin’s agricultural

workforce and 15 percent of the information technology workforce, and Wisconsin's
6
immigrant population includes 18,200 entrepreneurs whose business income
7
exceeds $527 million annually; and

Whereas, Immigrant Heritage Month is a time for Wisconsinites to come
9
together in a spirit of unity, kindness, and inclusivity, rejecting prejudice against
10
immigrants regardless of legal status or nation of origin and celebrating their

ongoing contributions to our communities and state; now, therefore, be it
