Whereas, October is recognized nationally as Vaccine Injury Awareness

Month, a time to acknowledge and support individuals and families affected by
5
vaccine-related injuries; and

Whereas, the black ribbon has been chosen as the symbol for this month to

represent the sensitive and often stigmatized nature of these experiences; and

Whereas, vaccine injuries may present gradually and are sometimes

misattributed to other causes due to their subtle onset; and

Whereas, vaccine information sheets provided in medical settings may not

fully reflect the potential adverse effects listed in manufacturer package inserts or

post-marketing surveillance data; and

Whereas, informed consent in healthcare requires access to accurate and

detailed information, including vaccine inserts, reporting systems such as the

Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) and OpenVAERS, and global

resources such as the World Health Organization’s VigiAccess system; now,
