A BILL

AN ACT relating to public schools; requiring school districts to report student violation of certain criminal laws to local law enforcement agencies; and providing for an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

Section 1.

Punishment and disciplinary measures; denial of diploma or credit; mandatory reporting of certain student misconduct to law enforcement.

(d)

In addition to punishment and disciplinary measures established in accordance with this article, each school district shall report student violations of laws prohibiting the possession or use of tobacco under W.S. 14

305, alcoholic liquor or malt beverages under W.S. 12

101, controlled substances regulated under W.S. 35

1001 through 35

‑
1060, possession or use of a deadly weapon as defined under W.S. 6

104(a)(iv) and other violations of law occurring within the boundaries of real property used by the district primarily for the education of students in grades kindergarten through twelve (12) or within any school bus as defined by W.S. 31

102(a)(xl), to the local law enforcement agency having jurisdiction. The board of trustees of the school district shall through its supervisory and administrative staff, establish procedures to implement this subsection.

Section 2.

This act is effective July 1, 2005.
