Dog safety restraint devices.

A BILL

for

AN ACT relating to dogs being carried on vehicles; prohibiting dogs being carried on vehicles without specified restraint devices; providing a penalty; and providing for an effective date.

109. Carrying dog on vehicle prohibited; exception; penalty.

(a)

No person shall carry any dog upon the hood, fender running board or other external part of a vehicle or in the open bed of a pickup truck or other vehicle if the vehicle is being operated upon a public road or highway, unless the dog is protected by framework, carrier or other device sufficient to keep it from falling from the vehicle.

(b)

Any person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable upon conviction by a fine of not more than two hundred dollars ($200.00).

Section 2.
This act is effective July 1, 2005.
