WORKING DRAFT 2005 STATE OF WYOMING 05LSO-0634 HOUSE BILL NO. HB0284 ACT exam fees. Sponsored by: Representative(s) Harshman, Diercks, Hammons, Hinckley and Walsh A BILL for AN ACT relating to the American college testing (ACT) exam; appropriating funds to pay exam fees for specified students; delegating duties to the department of education; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming: Section 1. (a) Any school district may apply, on behalf of an eligible student qualifying under this section, to the department of education for payment of fees to participate in the American college testing (ACT) examination. To qualify for payment under this section, the participating student shall be: (i) Enrolled in grade eleven (11) during school year 2004-2005 and participate in the ACT on the spring 2005 national testing dates; or (ii) Enrolled in grade eleven (11) during school year 2005-2006 and participate in the ACT on the spring 2006 national testing dates. (b) Upon a form and within the time prescribed by the department, a district may apply for payment under this section. The department shall upon verification of qualifying students participating in the ACT during the spring 2005 administration of the exam, and again in the 2006 administration of the exam, distribute amounts to each applicant district by multiplying the number of participating students by twenty-eight dollars ($28.00). The department shall, as soon as reasonably possible following the effective date of this act, notify districts of funding available under this section. (c) For the period commencing on the effective date of this act through June 30, 2006, three hundred eighty thousand dollars ($380,000.00) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of education to implement this section. Section 2. This act is effective immediately upon co m pletion of all acts necessary for a bill to become law as provided by Article 4, Section 8 of the Wyoming Constit u tion. (END) 1 HB0284
