Sponsored by: Senator(s) Decaria, Case, Job, Larson and Schiffer and Representative(s) Luthi, Olsen and Reese A BILL for A JOINT RESOLUTION proposing to amend the Wyoming Constitution by amending the oath of office required of senators and representatives and all judicial, state and county officers. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WYOMING, two-thirds of all the members of the two houses, voting separately, concurring therein: Section 1. The following proposal to amend Wyoming Constitution, Article 6, Section 20 is proposed for submission to the electors of the State of Wyoming at the next general election for approval or rejection to become valid as a part of the Constitution if ratified by a majority of the electors at the election: Article 6, Section 20. Oath of office; form. Senators and representatives and all judicial, state and county officers shall, before entering on the duties of their respective offices, take and subscribe the following oath or affirmation: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, obey and defend the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of this state Wyoming , and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity; that I have not paid or contributed, or promised to pay or contribute, either directly or indirectly, any money or other valuable thing, to procure my nomination or election, (or appointment) except for necessary and proper expenses expressly authorized by law; that I have not, knowingly, violated any election law of the state related to my election or appointment , or procured it to be done by others in my behalf ." ; that I will not knowingly receive, directly or indirectly, any money or other valuable thing for the performance or nonperformance of any act or duty pertaining to my office, other than the compensation allowed by law." Section 2. That the Secretary of State shall endorse the following statement on the proposed amendment: The adoption of this amendment would clarify and modernize the oath of office taken by all elected and appointed officials of whom the oath is required.
