Summary/Major Elements:

Under current law the state
reimburses counties for the lesser of fifty percent or $20,000 of the salary of
a full-time county and prosecuting attorney. This act removes the $20,000
limit.

Also under current law the
state reimburses counties for salaries of full-time assistant county and
prosecuting attorneys as follows:

o

Counties with a population of
over 9,000 the lesser of $15,000 or 50%;

o

Plus the same for each 10,000
in population.

This act raises the $15,000
limit to $30,000, while keeping the 50% limit for assistants.

Current law also provides a
state reimbursement of $3,000 for expenses for each full-time county and
prosecuting attorney and each full-time assistant county and prosecuting
attorney. This act repeals that provision.

The act also appropriates
$1,936,000.00 from the general fund to the attorney general's office for the
next fiscal year to pay the increased reimbursements.

AN ACT relating to county and prosecuting attorneys; amending the amounts paid by the state for county and prosecuting attorneys and assistant county and prosecuting attorneys as specified; providing an appropriation; and providing for an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

Annual salaries of certain officers; additional compensation prohibited; exception as to traveling and other expenses; compensation of county commissioner; appointment and salaries of deputies, clerks, stenographers and other assistants.

(f)

The state will pay
twenty thousand dollars ($20,000.00) or
fifty percent (50%) of the salary of the
full-time
county and prosecuting attorney
, whichever is less,
per year

to each qualifying county.
In counties with a population greater than nine thousand (9,000)

Payments under this section shall be made annually on or before June 30.

Section 2.
There is appropriated from the general fund one million nine hundred thirty-six thousand dollars ($1,936,000.00) to the attorney general's office for the purposes of this act for the fiscal period from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008.

Section 3.
This act is effective July 1, 2007.
