A BILL

for

AN ACT relating to
health and welfare; providing for a school based influenza vaccination
feasibility
study;

providing for a report;
and providing for an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of
Wyoming
:

Section 1.

(a)

The department of health shall work to increase influenza immunization awareness and
participation
among parents of children aged six
(6)
months to five
(5)
years in child care facilities and schools. The official website of the department of health shall
contain
information on the benefits of annual immunization against influenza for children and
the department's
programs offered for the children. The department of health shall cooperate with the
department
of family services in order to distribute
such
information to the parents, child care facilities and schools effectively in August or September in every year.

(b)

The department of health shall conduct a study of the feasibility of establishing a school-based influenza vaccination pilot program. The study shall:

(i)

Examine the costs and benefits of establishing a school-based influenza vaccination pilot program;

(ii)

Identify any barriers to implementing the school-based influenza vaccination pilot program and recommend strategies for removing the barriers;

(iii)

Determine the fiscal impact to the state of the proposed pilot program;

(iv)

Explore various methods of vaccine
administration
by health officials
with the least potential adverse effects
.

(c)

The department of health shall submit a report on its findings and recommendations resulting from the study to the joint labor, health and social services interim committee on October 1, 2008. The joint labor, health and social services interim committee may introduce legislation in order to provide for the program.

(d)

The department of health may
use any funds available to the department, not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) to conduct
the
feasibility study under this act
.
