Summary/Major Elements:

Under current law, a marriage
license does not expire, whether the marriage is solemnized or not.

This bill would:

Provide that a marriage
license would expire one year from the date the license was issued if the
parties have not solemnized the marriage;

Require that marriage
licenses issued by a Wyoming county clerk show the expiration date of the
license;

Require that the parties
reapply for a new marriage license if they want to solemnize a marriage after
the previous marriage license has expired.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of

(d)

A marriage license obtained from a
Wyoming
county clerk shall expire one (1) year from the date the license was issued if the parties have not solemnized the marriage. The expiration date shall be shown on the marriage license. Upon expiration of a marriage license, the parties shall apply for and obtain a new marriage license before solemnization of their marriage in this state.

Section 2.

This act is effective July 1, 2009.
