Sponsored by: Representative(s) Gay, Eklund, Hunt, Jaggi, Kroeker, Quarberg, Shepperson and Teeters A BILL for AN ACT relating to public schools; requiring a flag to be displayed in each classroom as specified; requiring the pledge of allegiance to be recited as specified; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming : Section 1. W.S. 21 ‑ 3 ‑ 110(a) by creating a new paragraph (xxx) is amended to read: 21 ‑ 3 ‑ 110. Duties of boards of trustees. (a) The board of trustees in each school district shall: (xxx) Ensure that the United States flag is displayed in each classroom within the district. The flag shall be a standard size flag. The board shall ensure that no other flag or banner containing a political message or connotation is displayed higher in a classroom than the United States flag. The board of trustees shall require the pledge of allegiance of the United States to be recited during the first class or period of the day in each classroom in the district. The district shall establish a policy which provides for students who do not wish to recite the pledge of allegiance . Section 2. This act is effective July 1, 2011. (END) 1 HB0204
