Sponsored by: Representative(s) Gay, Brechtel, Burkhart, Edmonds , Hunt, Jaggi, Kroeker, Peasley and Quarberg A BILL for AN ACT relating to education; requiring school districts to provide instruction on the Wyoming and United States constitution as specified ; modifying state board of education duties accordingly; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming : Section 1. W.S. 21 ‑ 2 ‑ 304(a) by creating a new paragraph (vii) and 21 ‑ 9 ‑ 101 by creating a new subsection (h) are amended to read: 21-2-304. Duties of the state board of education. (a) The state board of education shall: (v ii ) Establish, in consultation with local school districts, grade appropriate requirements for classroom instruction required by W.S. 21 ‑ 9 ‑ 101(h). 21 ‑ 9 ‑ 101. Educational programs for schools; standards; core of knowledge and skills; special needs programs; class size requirements; cocurricular activities. (h) Commencing with the 2011-2012 school year, on September 17 of each school year, all school districts shall provide i nstruction o n the United States and Wyoming c onstitution s to students in kindergarten through grade 12, in recognition of the date the United States c onstitution was signed. I f September 17 falls on a day when school is not in session, the instruction shall be provided the next day that school is in session. The instruction shall be provided to students in accordance with standards promulgated by the state board . Section 2. This act is effective July 1, 2011. (END) 1 HB0227
