Sponsored by: Senator(s) Rothfuss, Nutting and Von Flatern and Representative(s) Craft and Harvey A BILL for AN ACT relating to consumer credit for hospital charges; limiting interest chargeable by a hospital for healthcare services as specified; providing definitions; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming : Section 1. W.S. 40 ‑ 14 ‑ 262 is created to read: 40 ‑ 14 ‑ 262. Limitation on hospital interest charges. (a) In the case of a debt arising out of healthcare services provided by a hospital, interest on any installment payment agreement and prejudgment interest on any unpaid service charges shall not exceed seven percent ( 7 %) per year. ( b ) As used in this section : (i) "Healthcare services" means any care, service or procedure provided by a hospital licensed under the laws of this state for which payment is due to the hospital or the hospital's agent for collection: (A) To diagnose, treat or maintain a patient's physical or mental condition; or (B) That affects the structure or any function of the human body. (ii) "H ospital" means a county memorial hospital, special hospital district or privately operated hospital licensed pursuant to title 35, chapter 2, article 9. Section 2. This act is effective July 1, 2011. (END) 1 SF0084
