Sponsored by: Senator(s) Barnard and Representative(s) Bonner and Jaggi A BILL for AN ACT relating to education; requiring completion of kindergarten before enrolling in first grade as specified; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming : Section 1. W.S. 21 ‑ 4 ‑ 302 (a) is amended to read: 21 ‑ 4 ‑ 302. Age for registration in first grade and kindergarten; preschool programs. (a) A pupil may register in the first grade in the public schools of this state in the year in which his sixth birthday falls on or before September 15 , provided that a pupil shall not register in the first grade until the pupil has completed a kindergarten program or the pupil receives permission from the school district to enroll directly in the first grade after completing a readiness assessment administered by the district . Section 2. This act is effective July 1, 2011. (END) 1 SF0140
