Subject: Notice to parents of citations issued to child. Summary/Major Elements: This act requires that parents be notified when a child receives a citation for violating the law. Notice must be given if a fine or jail may be imposed. The law enforcement agency must take reasonable action to notify the childs parent or guardian.
WORKING DRAFT ORIGINAL HOUSE BILL NO. 0175 ENROLLED ACT NO. 98, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SIXTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WYOMING 2013 GENERAL SESSION AN ACT relating to juveniles; requiring notification to parents, guardians or custodians when a juvenile is issued a citation as specified; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming : Section 1. W.S. 14 ‑ 6 ‑ 206 by creating a new subsection (c) is amended to read: 14 ‑ 6 ‑ 206. Child in custody; no detention without court order; exceptions; notice to parent or guardian; release. (c) After issuing any citation to a child for a violation of a state or federal law or a municipal ordinance for which incarceration or a fine may be imposed, the law enforcement agency issuing the citation or its designee shall take reasonable actions to notify the child's parent, guardian or custodian. Section 2. This act is effective July 1, 2013.
