Elements:

Under current law, coroners are required to meet
continuing education requirements set by the board of coroners standards.
Under current law there is no enforcement mechanism to ensure those
requirements are met.

This bill requires the board to promulgate rules to
provide for review of complaints that a coroner has failed to meet continuing
education requirements. The bill authorizes the board to notify the county
commissioners if a county coroner has failed to meet the requirements.

This bill authorizes the board to provide a system to
offer continuing education programs.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

Section 1.

Board of coroner standards.

(c)

The board shall:

Promulgate rules and regulations to provide for the review of complaints if a coroner or deputy coroner has failed to comply with any provision of W.S. 7

this subsection
or has failed to meet any educational
or training requirement
provided under this section.
The board shall make recommendations to the
peace officer standards and training commission
regarding revocation of certifications based on these investigations;

(vii)

Provide for
a
system to offer educational programs to assist coroners and deputy coroners in meeting educational and training requirements provided under this section.

(f)

In addition to any action under subsection (e) of this section, t
he board shall notify the
county commissioners
for the county of any coroner or deputy coroner who has had his certification revoked.

Section 2.
This act is effective July 1, 2014.
