Elements:

Under current law, a juvenile court has jurisdiction to:

Determine questions concerning the right to legal
custody of a minor in need of supervision;

Order any party to the proceedings to perform any acts,
duties and responsibilities the court deems necessary;

Order any party to the proceedings to refrain from any
act or conduct the court deems detrimental to the best interest and welfare of
the minor or essential to the enforcement of any lawful order of disposition
made by the court.

Under current law, the juvenile court may exercise
jurisdiction over children in need of supervision until the child has reached
the age of seventeen.

This bill extends that jurisdiction until a child has
reached the age of eighteen.

Definitions.

(a)

As used in this act:

(iv)

"Child in need of supervision" means any child who has not reached his
seventeenth

birthday who is habitually truant or has run away from home or habitually disobeys reasonable and lawful demands of his parents, guardian, custodian or other proper authority or is ungovernable and beyond control. "Child in need of supervision" includes any child who has not reached his
seventeenth

birthday who has committed a status offense;

uration of orders of disposition; termination of orders.

(b)

Unless sooner terminated by court order, all orders issued under this act shall terminate with respect to a child adjudicated in need of supervision when he reaches
seventeen (17)

years of age. If the child is still in the custody of the department upon attaining the age of
seventeen (17)

years, services may be provided on a case by case basis.
Section 2
.

This act is effective immediately upon completion of all acts necessary for a bill to become law as provided by Article 4, Section 8 of the Wyoming Constitution.
