colleges for honorably discharged veterans who do not otherwise qualify as Wyoming
residents but who have taken documented steps to become residents.

The
act applies to veterans who were honorably discharged within 12 months before
application, or within 12 months before acceptance if already enrolled on April
1, 2014.

AN ACT relating to education; providing for resident tuition for military veterans at the University of Wyoming and community colleges as specified; providing a definition; and providing for an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

Section 1.

Tuition to be as nearly free as possible; number, qualifications and selection of students for reduced tuition;
tuition for veterans;
reciprocal residency.

(e)

Effective for the 2014 summer school session and each semester thereafter, a
ny
person who is a military veteran who does not qualify as a resident pursuant to subsection (d) of this section
shall qualify as a resident
for purposes of tuition at the U
niversity
of Wyoming
or Wyoming community college
if
the person provides
:

(i)

A certificate or other evidence
of
honorable

discharge from
the uniformed services of the United States
:

(A)

Within the twelve (12) month period
immediately preceding application for resident tuition pursuant to this subsection
; or

(B)

Within the twelve (12) month period immediately preceding acceptance to the University of Wyoming or Wyoming community college if the applicant for resident tuition was attending the University of Wyoming or Wyoming co
mmunity college on April 1, 2014
.

(ii)

Documented e
vidence that the veteran has taken steps to establish residency in Wyoming
.

(f)

For purposes of subsection (e) of this section, "
uniformed services of the United States" means service in the
United States army, navy, air force, marine corps, coast guard, United States public health service commissioned corps, national oceanic and atmospheric administration commissioned corp
s
, national guard or any reserve or auxiliary component thereof
.

(g)

Once a military veteran has qualified for resident tuition under subsection (e) of this section
,
the veteran shall remain qualified
in subsequent years

upon
complying
with
paragraph

(e)
(ii) of this section.

Powers and duties of the commission.

(a)

The commission shall perform the following general functions:

Section 2.

This act is effective immediately upon completion of all acts necessary for a bill to become law as provided by Article 4, Section 8 of the Wyoming Constitution.
