Subject: Motor vehicle - bicycle safety. Summary/Major Elements: W.S. 31-5-203 establishes rules for motor vehicle drivers when they pass traffic moving in the same direction. This legislation amends W.S. 31-5-203 to require drivers allow at least three feet of separation between a bicycle and their vehicle when passing the bicycle. ORIGINAL House Bill No . HB0085 ENROLLED ACT NO. 99, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SIXTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WYOMING 2015 General Session AN ACT relating to motor vehicles; providing requirements for motor vehicles overtaking and passing bicycles as specified; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming: Section 1 . W.S. 31 ‑ 5 ‑ 203( a)(intro) and by creating a new subsection (c) is amended to read: 31 ‑ 5 ‑ 203 . Rules governing overtaking on the left . (a) The following rul es shall govern the overtaking and passing of vehicles proceeding in the same direction, subject to those limitations, exceptions and special rules hereinafter stated and those contained in subsection (c) of this section : (c) The driver of a motor vehicle overtaking and passing a bicycle , which is operating lawfully, proceeding in the same direction shall , when space allows, maintain at least a three (3) foot separation between the right side of the driver's motor vehicle, including all mirrors and other projections from the motor vehicle, and the bicycle. Section 2 . This act is effective July 1, 2015.
