Subject: Providing for an additional district judge in the first judicial district Summary/Major Elements: This bill authorizes an additional first judicial district judge position upon further legislative action, subject to additional conditions: Certification by th e C hief J ustice of the Wyoming Supreme C ourt that suitable facilities in Laramie C o unty have been completed. The facilities must be in addition to existing facilities and must meet requirements specified in the act . Upon receipt of the certifi cation, the Joint Appropriations Committee or Joint Judiciary C ommittee may sponsor legislation it deems appropriate and necessary to implement the additional position, to make any necessary appropriations and to authorize any necessary additional support position s . Comments: Report required: The Chief Justice is to certify suitable facilities are available as noted above. ORIGINAL Senate File No . SF0006 ENROLLED ACT NO. 43, SENATE SIXTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WYOMING 2016 Budget Session AN ACT relating to the judiciary; authorizing an additional district judge in the first judicial district; specifying conditions for the authorization to be effective; requiring a report; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming: Section 1. (a) The first judicial district shall be authorized a n additional district judge position beyond those authorized under W.S. 5- 3 - 1 02(a) upon completion of all of the following: (i) C ertification by the ch ief justice of the Wyoming supreme court that suitable facilities in Laramie county have been completed and are ready for occupancy for the additional district court judge. Adequate facilities shall include a suitable court room to accommodate a twelve (12) person jury, offices and other necessary auxiliary facilities. The court room , offices and other auxiliary facilities shall be in addition to those existing for district court purposes in Laramie county as of July 1, 2016; (ii) The certification shall be delivered to the joint appropriations interim committee and the joint judiciary interim committee. Upon receipt of the certification, either committee may sponsor legislation it deems appropriate and necessary to implement the additional position, to make any necessary appropriations and to authorize any necessary additional support positions ; (iii) E nactment into law of legislation authorizing the filling of the additional district court position. Section 2 . This act is effective July 1, 201 6 .
