Summary/Major Elements: Under existing law , school districts must provide instruction in foreign languages to students in kindergarten through second grade. The bill eliminates this as a requirement, but still allows school districts to voluntarily provide this instruction. ORIGINAL House Bill No . HB0126 ENROLLED ACT NO. 102, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SIXTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WYOMING 2017 General Session AN ACT relating to education; making permissive the requirement that school districts provide foreign language instruction to students in kindergarten through second grade; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming: Section 1 . W.S. 21 ‑ 9 ‑ 101( g) is amended to read: 21 ‑ 9 ‑ 101 . Educational programs for schools; standards; core of knowledge and skills; special needs programs; class size requirements; cocurricular activities. (g) Not later than the 2002 ‑ 2003 school year, a ll Any school districts shall district may provide instruction in foreign languages to students in kindergarten through grade 2 . A school dist rict that provides instruction in a foreign language pursuant to this subsection shall do so in accordance with standards promulgated by the state board. Section 2 . This act is effective July 1, 201 7 .
