Current law provides for each body of the Legislature to employ staff during the session. Historically some session staff

have been employed shortly before and after the session to prepare for the session and wrap things up.

This bill specifies that each body may employ staff beyond the adjournment of the session to complete recordkeeping and before session to prepare for sessions.

Staff are employed under the direction of the presiding officers.

The bill also specifies that all persons employed by either house at all times serve at the will of the presiding officer of each house

Additional employees.

At any time during the session of the legislature when the employment of additional persons may be necessary for the efficient performance of the duties imposed upon the legislature, the senate and house of representatives are hereby authorized to employ such additional employees.

All persons employed by either house shall at all times serve at the will of the presiding officer of that house.

Employees generally.

(a)

At the beginning of each session of the legislature, the senate thereof shall engage such employee personnel for said session, upon respective compensation bases, as decided by it.

(b)

The senate may authorize personnel
to be
employed beyond the adjournment of the session in order to complete recordkeeping of each session and prepare for each session of the legislature
. The
president of the
senate

shall establish the compensation of any staff so employed whose duties shall be performed under the direction of the president.
