Sponsored by: Representative(s) Hunt and Steinmetz A BILL for AN ACT relating to food and drugs; requiring placards designating the country of origin for beef sold to the public as specified; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming: Section 1 . W.S. 35 ‑ 7 ‑ 119( e ) (intro) and by creating a new subsection (g ) is amended to read: 35 ‑ 7 ‑ 119 . Fair packaging, labeling and placard recognition provisions. (e) Every retailer and every wholesaler who sells or offers for sale in this state through an establishment or otherwise any meat, which is the product of any country foreign to the United States, shall clearly label the meat as "imported," naming the country of its origin. The department shall promulgate rules and regulations with respect to labeling. As used in this subsection and subsection (g) of this section : (g) Every retailer who sells or offers for sale any beef in this state through an establishment or otherwise shall place in the immediate vicinity of the beef a conspicuous placard that is clearly visible and readily viewable by the public to designate the beef as imported beef or USA beef. The placard for imported beef shall indicate each country in which the animal was born, raised or slaughtered. As used in this subsection: (i) "Imported beef" means any beef that is not USA beef; ( ii ) " U SA b eef" means any meat from cattle, including veal , that is derived e xclusively from animals born, raised and slaughtered in the United States . If transported to any other country the total time outside of the United States shall not exceed sixty (60) days. Section 2 . This act is effective July 1, 201 8 . (END) 1 HB0090
