This act designates Wyoming as a Purple Heart State in recognition of military service members—including Wyoming citizens—who were wounded or killed in combat.

This act also establishes August 7 of each year as Purple Heart Day in Wyoming and requires the Veterans' Commission to work with military and local organizations to observe the day with appropriate
activities and programs.

Purple Heart Day.

United States
military decoration in present use
, created as the badge of military m
erit in 1782 by General George Washingto
n, and in recognition that the purple h
eart
is specifically awarded to members of the United States armed forces including Wyoming citizens who have been wounded or paid the ultimate sacrifice in combat,
August 7 of each year is designated as
"
Purple Heart Day.
"
The day shall be appropriately observed by state and local government

and by organizations within the state.

(b)

The

This section shall not affect commercial paper, the making or execution of written agreements or judicial proceedings, or authorize public schools, business or state and local government offices to close.
