Subject: Motor vehicle registration dates for deployed military members. Summary/M ajor Elements: This act allows military servicemembers whose vehicle registrations expire during a period of active deployment of 90 days or more to renew their vehicle registrations upon return to Wyoming without additional fee or penalty. Th is act allows servicemembers to change their registration month to the month in which they register after returning from deployment. In order for servicemembers to register under this act, they must provide to the county treasurer proper documentation of deployment and attest that the vehicle to be registered was not driven between the original date of expiration and the date of registration. ORIGINAL Senate File No . SF0084 ENROLLED ACT NO. 31, SENATE SIXTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WYOMING 2018 Budget Session AN ACT relating to motor vehicle registration; providing registration timelines for members of the armed forces on deployment; making conforming amendments; and providing for an effective date. Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming: Section 1 . W.S. 31 ‑ 2 ‑ 201(a) (intro) and by creating a new subsection (q) is amended to read: 31 ‑ 2 ‑ 201 . Registration required; timelines. (a) Except as provided in W.S. 31 ‑ 2 ‑ 224 and subsection (q) of this section , every owner, or if applicable, operator or lessee, of a vehicle which will be operated or driven upon any highway in Wyoming, shall be required to obtain registration at the following times: (q) Members of the armed forces who register their vehicles in Wyoming, are deployed outside the continental United States for ninety (90) days or more and whose vehicle registrations expire during the ir term of deployment shall be permitted to register their vehicles no later than fourteen (14) days after returning to Wyoming after deployment. The annual registration month of a vehicle registered under this subsection shall be the month in which the vehicle is registered after deployment. No fees or penalties shall be charged as a result of reg istration under this subsection and the registration fees charged shall be the same as otherwise provided in this article. Members who register under this subsection shall : (i) P r ovide to the county treasurer pr oper documentation of the deployment ; and (ii) A ttest that the vehicle to be registered was not driven between the date the vehicle registration expired and the date of registration under this subsection. Section 2 . This act is effective July 1, 201 8 .
