Plain English Breakdown
The summary provided by the candidate explanation matches closely with the official bill text, but some details were removed due to lack of explicit support.
Advance Enrollment for Military Families
This law allows children of military personnel who are transferred to Wyoming to enroll in schools there before moving, and requires school districts to accept electronic enrollment requests.
What This Bill Does
Defines a student as a resident if their parent or guardian is on active duty military orders for transfer to Wyoming.
Requires school districts to allow these students to enroll electronically.
Allows parents or guardians of eligible students to provide proof of residence within ten days after the child starts attending the new school.
Who It Names or Affects
Children of military personnel who are transferred to Wyoming.
School districts in Wyoming.
Terms To Know
Active Military Duty
Full-time duty status in the active uniformed service of the United States, including members of the National Guard and Reserve on active orders.
Limits and Unknowns
The law does not specify what happens if proof of residence is not provided within ten days.
It is unclear how schools will handle enrollment for students who are already in the middle of a school year when their parents receive transfer orders.
Amendments
These notes stay tied to the official amendment files and metadata from the legislature.
Plain English: The amendment removes specific language about a military installation from the bill, which originally allowed for advance enrollment of K-12 students whose parents are transferred or transferring military personnel.
Removes references to 'a military installation within' in the bill text.
Deletes lines 3 through 5 on page 3 of the original bill.
The exact impact and context of deleting lines 3 through 5 are not fully explained, making it unclear what specific provisions were removed.
Plain English: The amendment changes the wording in a bill about K-12 student enrollment to specify 'the' instead of 'such an'.
Replaces the phrase 'such an' with 'the' in the bill text.
This change is very minor and does not provide enough context about what specific item or concept 'the' refers to, making it hard to understand its full impact without additional information.
