Duties of the state board of education.

(f)

The uniform student content and performance standards for the common core of knowledge and the common core of skills promulgated by the state board under paragraph (a)(iii) of this section shall be limited as follows:

(i)

For grades kindergarten through six (6), not more than four (4) content standards for one (1) grade level shall be adopted for each content area for reading/language arts, science and mathematics and for the remaining common core of knowledge specified under W.S. 21

101(b)(i), not more than one (1) content standard shall be adopted for each grade or grade band for each content area;

(ii)

For grades seven (7) through twelve (12), not more than eight (8) content standards shall be adopted for each grade or grade band for each content area specified under W.S. 21

(iii)

For purposes of subsection (c) of this section, "grade band" means at minimum two (2) grade levels.

Duties of boards of trustees.

(a)

The board of trustees in each school district shall:

Adopt a student assessment system to measure student performance relative to the uniform student content and performance standards in all content areas for which the state board has promulgated standards pursuant to W.S. 21

304(a)(iii). To the extent required by W.S. 21

304(a)(vi), the district assessment system shall be integrated with the statewide assessment system and the statewide accountability system.

Components of the district assessment system required by this paragraph shall be designed and used to determine the various levels of student performance in all content areas of the uniform student content and performance standards relative to the common core of knowledge and skills prescribed under W.S. 21

304(a)(vi), the district assessment system may utilize

course completion to measure student performance.
The district shall report to the state board in accordance with W.S. 21

304(a)(iv) on its assessment system adopted under this paragraph;

Section 2.

Not later than August 1, 2023, the state superintendent of public instruction and the state board of education, in consultation with school districts, shall report recommendations and plans to streamline, integrate, shorten and minimize student education assessments to assess only those subjects and grades required by federal law, including but not limited to statewide assessments administered pursuant to W.S. 21

304(a)(vi), (v) and (vi) and district assessments administered pursuant to W.S. 21
‑

110(a)(xv), (xxiv) and (xxxiv). The report shall include a recommendation to request a waiver to use a standardized college entrance examination and a career readiness examination administered pursuant to W.S. 21
‑

‑
202(a)(xxx), to satisfy federal student education assessment and accountability requirements.

Section 3.

The state board of education shall incorporate the limitations of the content standards contained in W.S. 21

‑
304(f), as created by this act, in accordance with the schedule identified under W.S. 21

304(c).

Section 4.

This act is effective immediately upon completion of all acts nec
‑
essary for a bill to become law as provided by Article 4, Section 8 of the Wyoming Constitution.
