The official source material does not provide specific details on the exact nature of the information that may be released or the precise mechanism for notification within designated surveillance areas.

Brucellosis Testing and Notification Requirements

This law requires the Wyoming Livestock Board to establish a communication protocol for brucellosis testing information and mandates that the State Veterinarian inform livestock owners about non-negative test results within three days.

What This Bill Does

  • Requires the Wyoming Livestock Board to create a standard communication protocol to inform livestock producers, veterinarians, and brand inspectors in designated surveillance areas where non-negative brucellosis tests have been confirmed.
  • Allows the board to release information related to confirmed non-negative brucellosis tests within the county where the test was conducted.
  • Mandates that the State Veterinarian provide testing information to livestock owners not later than three days after receiving preliminary laboratory results for a non-negative test.

Who It Names or Affects

  • Livestock producers, veterinarians, and brand inspectors in areas with confirmed non-negative brucellosis tests.
  • Owners of animals that have tested non-negative for brucellosis.

Terms To Know

Brucellosis
A disease affecting cattle, bison, and other livestock that can cause them to lose their young or become infertile.
Non-negative test result
A preliminary laboratory test result indicating an animal may have brucellosis but further testing is needed for confirmation.

Limits and Unknowns

  • The law does not specify the exact details of how information will be shared beyond confirming a non-negative test.
  • It remains unclear who exactly within the designated surveillance area will receive notifications from the board.
