A JOINT RESOLUTION

for

A JOINT RESOLUTION expressing support for the nation of Israel; condemning the terrorist attacks in Israel; and recognizing the sovereignty of Israel and the right of Israel to assure its own safety.

WHEREAS, on October 7, 2023, Hamas, an organization designated by the United States as a foreign terrorist organization, launched an unprecedented and unprovoked attack on Israel; and

WHEREAS, Hamas launched rockets, killed and injured Israeli citizens and abducted hostages from Israel, including children and the elderly; and

WHEREAS, American citizens in Israel were among those killed, injured or abducted by Hamas since commencing its attacks; and

WHEREAS, the United States has a strong history of standing in support of Israel, the people of Israel and Israel's democratic and cultural values; and

WHEREAS, the United States has maintained close ties with Israel since the establishment of the nation of Israel in 1948; and

WHEREAS, Israel and its people have an inalienable right to defend themselves against acts of terrorism; and

WHEREAS, the attacks of Israel by Hamas have threatened and continue to threaten Israel's sovereignty and Israel's right to provide for its safety.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WYOMING:

Section 1.

(a)

That the legislature:

(i)

Recognizes the sovereignty of Israel, including Israel's right to self-defense;

(ii)

Mourns the innocent victims of Israel who have been killed, injured or abducted as a result of the terrorist attacks by Hamas;

(iii)

Calls on Hamas to immediately cease its attacks on Israel and to safely release all living hostages and return the bodies of deceased hostages;

(iv)

Calls on the United States to lead an international effort to deprive Hamas of resources and funding that the terrorist group relies upon to threaten and attack Israel;

(v)

Calls on the United States to reaffirm our country's commitment to Israel's safety and security; and

(vi)

Stands with Israel as it defends itself against Hamas and works to diminish the threat posed by Hamas.

Section 2.

That the Secretary of State of Wyoming transmit copies of this resolution to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker and Speaker Pro Tempore of the United States House of Representatives, each member of the Wyoming congressional delegation and the United States Ambassador or Charge d'Affaires for Israel.
