Amending Vacancy Filling for Public Offices

The bill changes the process to fill vacancies in county commissioner positions and sets rules if these vacancies are not filled within a specified time.

What This Bill Does

  • Changes the process to fill vacant county commissioner positions by requiring remaining commissioners to notify the appropriate political party committee, which then selects three candidates for the board of county commissioners to choose from.
  • If the vacancy isn't filled as required, it allows the political party's central committee to appoint a temporary replacement or calls for a special election if no party is involved.
