Plain English Breakdown

The official source does not specify the exact requirements for government actions to limit religious freedom beyond stating they need to be 'essential' and 'least restrictive'.

Religious Freedom Restoration Act

This law stops state actions from heavily limiting people's religious practices unless it is necessary for a very important government reason and there are no less restrictive ways to achieve that reason.

What This Bill Does

  • Creates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which limits how the state can interfere with someone’s religious beliefs or practices.
  • Defines key terms like 'burden' and 'exercise of religion'.
  • Allows people whose religious freedom is being limited by a government action to sue for relief in court.

Who It Names or Affects

  • People who practice religion, including individuals, groups, organizations, and institutions.
  • Government agencies at state and local levels in Wyoming.
