Subject: Authorizes school districts to acquire, maintain and dispense epinephrine auto-injectors. Summary/Major Elements: This act authorizes a district board to acquire, maintain and dispense to schools within the district a supply of epinephrine auto-injectors for use in emergency situations. This act directs the department of education, in consultation with the department of health, to develop and make available guidelines on the: o Education and training of school personnel for the acquisition, maintenance and dispensing of epinephrine auto-injectors. o Identification of life threatening allergies and identification of acceptable epinephrine auto-injectors. o Procedures for responding to life threatening allergies. o Maintenance of records concerning each incident involving a life threatening allergy or the administration of epinephrine auto-injectors. This act provides that district boards, school nurses, school employees, and other designated personnel shall not be liable for damages resulting from the administration of or failure to administer epinephrine auto-injectors that may constitute ordinary negligence.
