ONE HUNDRED NINTH LEGISLATURE
SECOND SESSION
LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION 329

WHEREAS, advanced nuclear energy technologies represent a transformative
opportunity to bolster Nebraska's energy security and economic growth; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska is the only one hundred percent public power state, has
strong national rankings for low-cost and highly reliable electric service, and
is open to new advancements in nuclear technology to enhance energy
independence and environmental stewardship; and
WHEREAS, the importance of nuclear energy as a reliable and clean source
of power generation to meet the energy needs of future generations has engaged
development of state policies to support advanced nuclear energy development
over the next decade; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska is proud to be home to the Cooper Nuclear Station and to
ongoing nuclear energy research and innovation led by the University of
Nebraska and other partners committed to advancing safe and sustainable energy
technologies; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nebraska is a member of the National Association of
State Energy Officials and the Advanced Nuclear State Collaborative, and is
part of the Advanced Nuclear First Mover Initiative; and
WHEREAS, the Nebraska Public Power District, Omaha Public Power District,
and Lincoln Electric System have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form
the Great Plains New Nuclear Consortium which will explore the feasibility and
development of deploying between one thousand and two thousand megawatts of new
nuclear generation technology within Nebraska to serve the needs of utilities
in the Southwest Power Pool market footprint; and
WHEREAS, the Nebraska Public Power District is currently finalizing a
nuclear feasibility siting study funded through the Legislature and the

Nebraska Department of Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska's competitive edge is anchored in the strategic and
collaborative partnership among the military, state leadership, public power
utilities, chambers of commerce, and private industry driving innovation,
energy resilience, and national security alignment; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature recognizes the essential role of reliable,
affordable, resilient, and available energy in supporting our state's quality
of life through an increasingly diverse economy with its growing agricultural,
commercial, industrial, and agricultural foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature recognizes the need to create economic
opportunity and fortify Nebraska's energy future through advanced nuclear
energy development to enhance Nebraska's prosperity and energy security.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE ONE HUNDRED NINTH
LEGISLATURE OF NEBRASKA, SECOND SESSION:
1. That the Legislature recognizes the month of January 2026 as Nuclear
Power Month in Nebraska.
2. That the Legislature honors the service of the public power employees
and retirees who work or have worked with and in nuclear facilities across
Nebraska to ensure affordable and reliable energy for ratepayers.
