ONE HUNDRED NINTH LEGISLATURE
SECOND SESSION
LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION 341

Introduced by Arch, 14.
WHEREAS, on February 28, 2026, the NEBRASKAland Foundation will present
the Distinguished NEBRASKAlander Award, recognizing Nebraskans who have
distinguished themselves through innovative business careers or public service,
through voluntary leadership with a statewide impact, or through philanthropic
contributions significantly benefiting the citizens of the state, to Mogens C.
Bay at the annual Statehood Day Dinner held in the Nebraska State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bay serves as chairman of Valmont Industries, Inc.,
headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, and has demonstrated exceptional leadership
throughout his distinguished international career; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bay was born in Vejle, Denmark, in January 1949, graduated
from Vejle Gymnasium in June 1968, studied law at Aarhus University from 1968
to 1970, graduated from the East Asiatic Company College of International
Business in Copenhagen in 1973, and completed the Harvard Business School's
Advanced Management Program in 1984; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bay honorably served his country with the Royal Guards of the
Danish Army from July 1973 to June 1974, during which he was detailed to
protect the Queen of Denmark and members of the Danish royal family; and
WHEREAS, from December 1974 to December 1978 Mr. Bay managed the East
Asiatic Company's office in Beijing, People's Republic of China, at a time when
it was the only Western company permitted to operate an office in China, and
during his first three years he was the only Western businessman living
permanently in the country; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bay joined Valmont Industries in 1979 as the regional vice
president for Southeast Asia, residing in Hong Kong, and in 1982 relocated to
Madrid, Spain, to serve as vice president of sales and later vice president of

marketing for Valmont International; and
WHEREAS, in 1986 Mr. Bay moved to Valmont's corporate headquarters as
president and general manager of Valmont International and in 1990 was named
president and general manager of Valmont Irrigation; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bay became president and chief executive officer of Valmont
Industries, Inc. in 1993, was appointed chairman and chief executive officer in
January 1997, transitioned to executive chairman on January 1, 2018, and has
served as chairman since January 1, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bay has been deeply engaged in civic and philanthropic
leadership, serving as chairman of the Robert B. Daugherty Foundation, trustee
emeritus of the Walter Scott Family Foundation, chairman of the boards of the
Omaha Zoological Society and the Zoo Foundation, and vice chair of Heritage
Omaha; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bay also serves as a trustee of the Downtown Riverfront Trust
and the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute at the University of
Nebraska, contributing his expertise to initiatives that strengthen Nebraska's
cultural, environmental, and community assets; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bay and his wife, Cindy, make their home in Omaha, Nebraska,
and are the proud parents of their daughter, Sarah, and grandparents of their
grandsons, Charlie, Henry, and Alexander.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE ONE HUNDRED NINTH
LEGISLATURE OF NEBRASKA, SECOND SESSION:
1. That the Legislature recognizes and honors Mogens C. Bay for his
exceptional leadership, his enduring commitment to Nebraska, and his profound
contributions to industry, community, and philanthropy.
2. That a copy of this resolution be sent to Mogens C. Bay.
