ONE HUNDRED NINTH LEGISLATURE
SECOND SESSION
LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION 342

Introduced by Arch, 14.
WHEREAS, on February 28, 2026, the NEBRASKAland Foundation will present
the Distinguished NEBRASKAlander Award, recognizing Nebraskans who have
distinguished themselves through innovative business careers or public service,
through voluntary leadership with a statewide impact, or through philanthropic
contributions significantly benefiting the citizens of the state, to Steve
Hornady of Grand Island at the annual Statehood Day Dinner held in the Nebraska
State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Steve began his career with Hornady Manufacturing Company in 1971
and became president of the company in 1981 following the tragic death of his
father and company founder, Joyce Hornady; and
WHEREAS, under Steve's leadership Hornady Manufacturing has continued to
grow as an industry leader and innovator, strengthening its reputation for
excellence in manufacturing, product development, and workforce expansion; and
WHEREAS, Steve has been an active advocate for the shooting sports
industry serving on the boards of the National Rifle Association, the Sporting
Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute, and the National Shooting Sports
Foundation, and acting as the founding chairman of the Hunting and Shooting
Sports Heritage Fund; and
WHEREAS, Steve currently serves on the Nebraska State Chamber Board of
Directors, contributing his leadership to statewide business and economic
development; and
WHEREAS, Steve has been recognized with numerous industry honors,
including Shooting Industry Man of the Year by the Shooting Industry Academy of
Excellence, the National Rifle Association's Golden Bullseye Pioneer Award in
2013, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation's highest honor, the Ken

Sedlecky Lifetime Achievement Award, in 2024; and
WHEREAS, Steve was inducted into the Hall of Honor by the Grand Island
Public Schools Foundation in 2024, and Hornady Manufacturing was named Business
of the Year by the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation in 2018;
and
WHEREAS, Steve has demonstrated a strong commitment to youth through his
support of high school foundations, high school shooting sports, the Greater
Grand Island Community Foundation's Youth Philanthropy Board, and the Central
Community College Advanced Manufacturing program; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, the Hornady family was inducted into the Nebraska
Business Hall of Fame and Steve and his son Jason were inducted into the
Aksarben Foundation's Court of Honor, and in 2025, the Hornady family received
the Legacy Award from the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Steve and Hornady Manufacturing have supported the GRACE Cancer
Foundation and the American Cancer Society, donating more than one million
dollars to support cancer research and patient services; and
WHEREAS, Steve funded the Hornady Crime House at the Grand Island campus
of Central Community College in 2024 and pledged one million dollars to the
Grand Island YWCA in 2025 to support its new Child Development Center; and
WHEREAS, Steve has been a longtime supporter of the Hall County Hero
Flights,as well as donating one hundred thousand dollars to help bring a
federally funded state veterans cemetery to Grand Island; and
WHEREAS, Steve has generously supported numerous charitable and civic
organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Salvation Army, the
Central Nebraska Humane Society, the Heartland United Way, the Combined Health
Agencies Drive, the Go Big Give giving event, Leadership Unlimited, Hope
Harbor, and Willow Rising; and
WHEREAS, when not working at the factory in Grand Island, attending
industry events, or supporting community initiatives, Steve can be found at his
favorite place, his farm along the Platte River.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE ONE HUNDRED NINTH

LEGISLATURE OF NEBRASKA, SECOND SESSION:
1. That the Legislature recognizes and honors Steve Hornady for his
exceptional leadership, his enduring commitment to Nebraska, and his profound
contributions to industry, community, and philanthropy.
2. That a copy of this resolution be sent to Steve Hornady.
