WHEREAS, Mike Yanney was born in 1933 to Elias (E.K.) and Mary Yanney, the
youngest of nine children, in Kearney, Nebraska; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Yanney graduated from Kearney State College, took courses
through the American Institute of Banking, and served in the United States
Army; and
WHEREAS, in 1960, Mr. Yanney married his wife Dr. Gail Walling Yanney and
moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he went to work for Omaha National Bank; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Yanney founded America First Companies, now known as
Burlington Capital, in 1984 which became one of Omaha's most notable privately
held investment companies under his leadership; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Yanney received the Horatio Alger Award in 2005 from the
Horatio Alger Association, an award given to exceptional leaders who have
triumphed over adversity to achieve success and embody the American Dream; and
WHEREAS, in May 2024, Mr. Yanney was presented with the University of
Nebraska at Kearney's highest honor, the Ron and Carol Cope Cornerstone of
Excellence Award, which is awarded to community leaders whose lasting gifts of
service or financial support have left an indelible mark on the institution;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Yanney served as volunteer chairman of Omaha's Riverfront
Development Project, was active in fund raising for the University of Nebraska
Medical Center, helped develop the E.K. and Mary Yanney Heritage Park in
Kearney in honor of his parents, and in 1986, together with his wife, founded

Partnership 4 Kids, a mentoring and scholarship program; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Yanney passed away on February 14, 2026, and is survived by
his wife Dr. Gail Walling Yanney, daughter Lisa Roskens, son-in-law William
Roskens, and grandchildren Charlie and Mary Roskens; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Yanney's passion for mentorship and his focus on funding
community projects, sharing his financial acumen, and finding the potential to
create a better future will be missed by his family, friends, and community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE ONE HUNDRED NINTH
LEGISLATURE OF NEBRASKA, SECOND SESSION:
1. That the Legislature extends condolences to the family, friends, and
community of Mike Yanney.
2. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the family of Mike Yanney.
