Summary for LSO115 Bill No.: HB0197 Effective : 7/1/2015 LSO No.: 15LSO-0544 Enrolled Act No.: HEA 75 Chapter No.: 110 Prime Sponsor: Edmonds Catch Title: Emergency vehicles-tow trucks and wreckers. Subject: Tow trucks as emergency vehicles. Sum mary/Major Elements: This legislation adds tow trucks to the list of “ authorized emergency vehicles ” for purposes of the motor vehicle statutes. Authorized emergency vehicles are allowed to take certain actions on roadwa ys that other vehicles are not. Tow trucks are considered to be emergency vehicles only while they are at the scene where a wrecked, disabled or stalled motor vehicle is located and whe n equipped with required lights. The legislation provides tow trucks are not covered by the provisions of W.S. 31-5-106(a), which allows emergency vehicles to speed, proceed through red lights, disregard traffic regulations and take other actions typically associated with a vehicle responding to an emergency.
