Subject: University of Wyoming WWAMI and WYDent funding Summary/Major Elements: Under current law, the University of Wyoming (University) operates a medical education (WWAMI) program and a dental education program (WYDent) under which the University enters into contracts with students and institutions to provide medical education . This a ct clarifies the University can agree to p ay all or a part of the student’ s tuition (which is a reflection of current practice ) . Current law also provides for the University to place funds generated from the contracts (primarily repayments from students who do not receive forgiveness of the payments by practicing in Wyoming) into an endowment account for each program . Expenditure s of earnings from funds in the endowment account are current ly limited to student assistance and scholarships. This act broadens the authorized expenditures to include re location costs associated with practice in Wyoming, fees and materials for medical board examinations, rural training, dislocation and student development , including scholarships and imposes a cap of 4% of the five-year average market value of the funds on the expenditures. Tuition and fees received by the University from students participating in the programs are also authorized by the a ct to be used to support education and training conducted at the U niversity. The modifications to the WWAMI program allow for more of the medical education to be provided at the University.
