Subject: Amending the salaries of district attorneys and county attorneys. Summary/Major Elements: This act provides that, beginning on January 2, 2023, the salary for each district attorney shall be not more than the salary authorized for a circuit court judge (currently $145,000), as determined by the Legislature. This act also provides that, beginning on January 2, 2023, the salary for each county attorney and county-and-prosecuting attorney shall be at least thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000) but not greater than the salary authorized for a circuit court judge (currently $145,000). Under current law, the state must pay fifty percent (50%) of the salary for each county-and-prosecuting attorney. This act provides that the state will pay fifty percent (50%) or fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) of each county-and-prosecuting attorney's salary, whichever is less.
