Subject: R egulation of tele pharmacies. Summary/Major Elements: This bill makes amendments to existing law which regulates how teleph armacies can operate in Wyoming. Telepharmacies are pharmacies located in locations away from their parent pharmacy and where prescriptions drugs are stored and dispensed. The bill requires a remote pharmacy be not less than ten miles from its parent pharmacy, unless the remote pharmacy is in a county with a city of greater than 50,000 people, is owned by the state or a political subdivision of the state or is located in a hospital or clinic setting. As an alternative to other options, the bill amends the law to allow a telepharmacy to operate if it has the capability of storing, securing and dispensing prescription drugs by manually dispensing tablets, capsules or liquids from a stock bottle into a prescription vial with an attached prescription label. Pursuant to the bill, telepharmacies must be supervised by a parent pharmacy and a licensed pharmacist and must be staffed during hours of operation by a licensed pharmacist, certified pharmacy technician or registered pharmacy intern. A licensed pharmacist must inspect the telepharmacy at a frequency spe cified by the Board of Pharmacy and under inspection criteria developed by the Board of Pharmacy. The bill removes the prohibition against a pharmacist serving as a pharmacist in charge for more than one telepharmacy.
